Getting Started with Segments

Audience segments are groups of customers categorized by shared attributes, such as demographic data, purchase history, or behavioral patterns. Use segments to deliver personalized marketing campaigns and generate detailed reports to gain insights into your audience.

Notes and limitations

Segments can contain up to five million users. If you need larger segments, please contact your customer success manager.

Segment sources and segment types

The segment type determines whether a segment is refreshed automatically or not, and the segment source describes how the segment was created. Both factors determine how and when a segment is refreshed.

Segment types

There are two types of segments with different refresh behaviors.

Dynamic segments: Recently active dynamic segments are refreshed automatically.
Static segments: Static segments don't refresh automatically. Refresh behavior is determined by the segment source.

Dynamic segments

User list	The segment is refreshed when a new source file is uploaded or selected.
Split user	The segment can't be refreshed after creation.

Segment sources

Segment source	Description
Default	Only available for projects with AIQUA enabled. Test Segment is a default segment that exists for all projects by default. This segment is used for sending test notifications during campaign creation.
Condition	Segments created by specifying segmentation conditions. Unified segments are synced between AIQUA and AIRIS instances within the same project.
User list	Segments created by uploading a CSV file with a list of user identifiers. The segment only contains users whose identifiers match those of existing users in your project's database.
AIQUA	Non-unified segments that can only be used in AIQUA campaigns. These segments aren't available for AIRIS features.
